My Research Question

  • Should I include specific types of animal or not?
  • What do I need to use to do my project?
  • How should I get the answer for my interview questions?
  • How long will it take for me to gather all the information for my project?
  • How should I entertain the children?
  • How long is this project going to be?
  • What should I do to make the children participate in this project?

My Final Project

Key:

A: First background which is desert.
The animals and plants will start talking.

B: Second background which is underwater
The animals and plantswill start talking.

C: Third background which is rainforest.
The animals and plants will start talking.

Left Arrow/ Right arrow is moving.
Up Arrow is facing right direction.
Down Arrow is facing left direction.

My design

The caption will be the same for both design.

I chose the second design because the background has more detail into it. The first design doesn't have enough detail to its background. The first design shows that I don't know much about scratch and the second design shows that I know scratch more. Before I don't know how to put the background to my scratch program so I asked my friend, Ishita, and she helped me. The first design's background are from internet, that's why it isn't detailed enough. I picked a simple background for each biome from the internet. The second design's background are from the folder in Scratch program. I just realised that there was a background folder. So I opened it and there was background for the biome that i'm doing except for rainforest. There was one, but it wasn't a cartoon image. I wanted a cartoon image. the rainforest background is the only image from the internet. As you can see, there is a difference between the rainforest background on first design and second design. You also can find animals in the scratch program, but most of my animals that I picked aren't in that folder so I had to search on the internet.

Design Brief

After researching how much they know about the animals and plants, I decided to design my own jungle. Only animals and plants that live in jungle. I think my scratch program is suitable for students in primary school. Any children below 12.

In the jungle, there will be:

  • Different types of animals with its description under it.
e.g: Buffalo, Parrots, Monkeys and etc.

  • Different types of plants with its description:
e.g: Bamboo plant, Chill Nettle, Devil's Tongue Flower and etc.
  • There will be trees around the animals.
  • Few plants that live on trees.
  • A small pond at the corner.

Strengths and Weaknesses

Strengths
The animation will be very simple. There will be only pictures of animals and plants. If you want to make this animation, all you have to do is add pictures and its description.
Weaknesses
There won’t be a lot of information about the animals and plants. It will show the name of it and few short sentences about it.
Opportunities
You will have a chance to know many animals. Animals that you don’t know before will probably be on there.
Threats
I don’t think there will be any threats.

Inquiry and Analysing - Scratch Explorations

What was your inspiration?

My inspiration was fish. I decided to use fish as my sprite because I like them. Some fish are friendly and some are not. I also eat fish. My mom always cook me fish and that is why I chose fish. Fish are my favourite food.
Fish can't do that many things but, they are able to talk in their way. So I decided to make fish talk to other fish for my scratch program.

How did you do that?

I made my fish move and around and stop whenever I want to. I also showed bubbles and in it is text. That is how I made them speak. There will be few fish on the screen.

What did you get stuck on? How did you get unstuck?

There is one thing that I got stuck on. The fish was turning to its right, so what I wanted was to turn to its left but, I couldn't. So, I asked miss to help me and she checked it. There was no solution to my problem.

What are you most proud of?

I am most proud of the fact that I know how to use scratch now. This is my first time using scratch though and I understood how to use it. I know how to make my sprite move and turn.

What might you do next?

Now, I only know how to make my sprite moves and change the background. What I want to do next is maybe to add sound so, there will be sound coming out from my sprite. I also want to do something different from the one that I made before.

Interview Questions

  1. What type of animals and plants do you know?
  2. Have you seen them before?
  3. If so, where did you find them and when?
  4. Can you describe the animals and plants?
  5. Do you know any plants that have complicated name?
  6. Can you describe its habitat?

My Research Plan

What will I research?
How will I gather the information?
PRIMARY SOURCE
How will I gather the information?
SECONDARY SOURCE
Why will I research this information?
When will I do this?
The different kinds of animals
INTERVIEW
I will interview my friends about animals that they know and maybe ask them about animals that are rarely to be seen. I’m going to ask them few questions about the animals that they mention. Collect some photos from the books or magazines
INTERNET
After I finished my interview, I will research about the animal that they talked about. I will collect and gather few photos from the internet.
I will research about the habitat of the animals and what they usually eat.
I want to find out if those kinds of animals still exist in the world or not, how they help us in our daily lives. Basically more information about them. Conducting interesting facts will also help.
For the interview, I will ask my friends during week days. Anytime during week days. For researching on the internet, I will do it during weekend after I interview people.
The different types of plants
INTERVIEW
I will also interview my friends about plants that they know and maybe ask them about plants that are rarely to be seen. I will ask them if they know about this plant before. If they can draw the plants that they know, I will ask them to draw it if they want to. Collect some photos from the books or magazines
INTERNET
I will research about the plants that were mentioned by the person that I interviewed. Collect photos from some websites. I will research where they can be found in the world. The Specific places that produces or planted these kind of plants.
I want to find out how some plants help in our daily lives, are they poisonous or not and research if the plants will be helpful in future or not. I want to know more about which plants that can be used for cooking.
For the interview, I will ask my friends during week days. Anytime during week days. For researching on the internet, I will do it during weekend after I interview people.

Design Situation

During MYP Design, we’ve learnt a new software called scratch. Scratch is a program that allows you to make your own games, stories, animations and etc. You are allowed to share your creations to others online. It is very useful for young people. It helps them to be creative and work collaboratively. In The Scratch, you are allowed to make your own character and your own background. Your character is called Sprite and it doesn’t have to be living things. It could be letters, numbers, or cars. The interesting part about the scratch is that you can make them, The Sprite, move anywhere you want. To make them move you have to insert codes.

Past few lessons, we were learning about design situation. My design situation is showing that there are many different plants and animals that exist in this world, the earth. There will be many different kinds of animals and plants popping out on the screen. It will even show its name. I will also try to add a little bit of its description if there is space left. Names of it is very important so everyone can learn it and search it up on the internet later on. This design situation is perfect for the small kids who don't know a lot about animals or plants. From here, they probably will learn new animals or plants that they haven't learn before. It will be nice for them to learn about all of the animals and plants that exist in the world when they're about the age of 7 so they could understand and learn them perfectly and fast. You can teach about plants and animals to kids at age of 5, but it will probably won't stick in their mind all the time.

Inquiry and Analysing - Creative Computing

What is creative computing?

Creative Computing was one of the earliest magazines that cover about the microcomputer revolution. It was published on October 1974. It stopped on October 1985. The magazine covers the whole spectrum of hobbyist/home/personal computing in more accessible format.
There are many different ways that you could interact with computer.

 For example:

  • ·         Suma Mouse Prototype
  • ·         The Peregrine Glove
  • ·         Tobii Rex
  • ·         Displair
  • ·         Sixthsense
  • ·         Luminae TransluSense Keyboard
  • ·         MIsee Tex
  • ·         Intellect Motion’s Gamecube

Suma mouse Prototype is touch - sensitive mouse that responds to every finger and hand gesture. It allows you to swipe and squeeze.

Tobii Rex is a gaze interaction. If you want to use a computer, you don’t need to use mouse. It is a device that can spot your eye movement to on – screen.

Displair is a screen made of air. It is an interactive projection on screen which respond to multitouch gesture.
