IDU Reflection

In French, we were asked to create a website about the lesson for people who do not know anything about French and the beginners. This is a part of IDU, Interdisciplinary Unit. Interdisciplinary learning is a way for students to learn and also to fulfill student’s needs. The educator will choose interdisciplinary learning for a way to help and deliver the content to students.

For this interdisciplinary unit, we were asked to make a website about the MFL that we are learning which is French for the students in grade 7. Not only for grade 7, but also for beginners and those people who does not know anything about it. In this website, there are many things that you could learn and there are also specific topics like grammar, nouns, articles etc. There also many videos about the French subject that you could watch. By using this website, I am sure that the students could learn about French. It will be really helpful when you go on a holiday to a French country. In this website, there are videos showing how to ask question, make a conversation and also to talk to the local people of French countries.

It was really fun in creating this website since I'm interested in designing things. I didn't think it would be that boring to create a website. It was really interesting to make fun and it doesn't benefit the students only, but also us. We are improving our IT skills in creating a website. The website that I created did not turn out that bad actually. Of course there are few challenges that I encountered while making this website such as I had to create many pages for each topic and all the pages didn't have same design. So I had to keep changing the design for all pages. The other challenge that I encountered was that I lost most of my work once. Once, there was a problem occurred and the screen froze for few minutes. I pressed the button save, but it did not actually save. Then I closed the website and on the next day i checked it, it was all gone. For this website, I don’t think I put lots of pictures and I also did not put lots of games. Because of this, the website might not attract the students because it might not be interesting. If I am making a website again, I would like to add more games that might interest the students and also pictures. In my website, I only add word search puzzles and that might seem boring to the students.

While creating this website, I think I may have learnt something from it. There were few things that I did not learn in my French class, but I learnt it here instead like adverbs in French, reflexive verbs etc. I think it will be very helpful to me as well. In the future, if I ever need to learn French I will just go to the website that I created.

I have chosen these design because they are the first designs that I created. These design have been annotated clearly with purpose. I've mentioned the colour and the style of the webpage. I know the writing style; the font, colour and size. The homepage design was clearly designed and met my specifications. I am satisfied with these designs and I have decided not to change it.

For my website, I have used roll over images and I also hyperlinked the images. If you click the second image, it will lead you to the EISM website. I've changed the background colour, font and the size. I added tables with 3 rows and 3 columns. I know how to merge cells and split cells to.

This website is about advertising children's animal toys. They advertise stuffed animals with the appropriate cost and they also tell us if it is on sale or not. This website has hyperlinks. If you click the logo, it will lead you to the homepage. If you want to buy, you have to click 'add to the cart'. If you click that button, it will show you how to buy the stuffed animal that you want. They also have logos of social media to promote their website and if you click them, it will lead you to that social media. The owner of this website also used roll over images to show many images of the stuffed animal in one place. He/She also put colours for the background.

This website advertise the best homepage designs that you could use for making websites. The owner of this website used roll over images and hyperlinks. Somehow, this website seems to be plain. The colours are plain. They aren't striking. There are also people give comments/feedbacks about the homepage designs. You could like and comments about it. There is a button called category. If you click it, it will show a variety of categories of homepage design. By using that, it will be easier to find the homepage design that you would like to use for your website. There are also advertisement of other things.

3. http://daltonmailingservice.com/

This website has very limited things. The homepage looks plain. It has nothing on it; no introduction and no information about the website. It only has hyperlinks button and roll over images. The only things on homepage is roll over images, hyperlinks and the website name. The rest is blank. On the homepage, there are 5 buttons which will lead you to different links. Overall, I would say that it is a bad layout.

Criteria D - Peer Evaluating solution

Rubik's Cube Solver - Tanya

Tanya has made a Rubik's cube solver. It is a lego robot which solves Rubik's cube. It was really fascinating. I thought it wouldn't work at first, but then it actually solved the Rubik's cube. This was my first time seeing it. She explained how it was made and the material she used to make the solver. It was made with Lego pieces and it was dope, awesome. The solution is well built and it solves the Rubik's cube neatly without having any problems. It took one minute and 27 seconds to solve the Rubik's cube. I'll give her a thumb up.

EXCELLENT!

It would be better if you tell more information about the advantages and disadvantages of the Rubik's cube solver. I think this project should take part in Tech Fair 2016 because it will attracts people attention and Rubik's cube is very famous among people. Hardly anyone couldn't solve the Rubik's cube. Some people might know how to solve if they learn the pattern on solving the Rubik's cube.

Solar Panel - JP & Danish

What was their project about?
Their project is about solar panel.

What are the positive things you liked about their presentation?
It is an Eco friendly thing and can be used everywhere. It extends battery charge. It is very light and small.

Is there any specific that you would like to give them as a feedback for improvement?
You could've show a video of you making this creation. So it will be like a video of the making of solar panel project. It will be great, so the others know how you guys created it. Also show us if this creation works or not.

According to you, do you think their project needs to be part of Tech Fair 2016?
I think this project could be part of Tech Fair 2016. This project might attract others attention since it is all about solar panel and it might be interesting for them.

Sports Game/App - Jash & Seo

What was their project about?

Their project is about a sports app which tells you about sports. For example, it will tell you about the news, sports team information and etc. 

What are the positive things you liked about their presentation?

It was interesting. Every sports team were mentioned there. You could see information about them and also about their players.

Is there any specific that you would like to give them as a feedback for improvement?

To make it more interesting, you could've also add like a game. So it will be more like an app game. At the same time, you could find out more about them. 

Basketball Game on Scratch - Irwan & Khalid

What was their project about?

They made a basketball game on scratch and it was kind of interesting. They had used many codes for making this scratch game. 

What are the positive things you liked about their presentation?

It was detailed. It moves smoothly throughout the video. You showed the codes that you used for this scratch project.

Is there any specific that you would like to give them as a feedback for improvement?
There are no feedback for improvements.

Solar energy in electronic devices - Daoud 

He created a research project about the different uses of solar energy in electronic devices. He tried to find out what else could be used instead of electricity. I can see that while his doing project, he gained lots of knowledge about his research project. He explained what his project is and also explained about solar panel. He could've explain more using pictures so it could attracts people attention. If you're just explaining in words, it won't attracts their attention and they will think that this project is boring. Also if you're doing this project again next time, it's better if you explain it clearly and slowly so people could understand. I don't think this project will not be part of the Tech Fair 2016 since it is just a research project. It is not a creation of his own. I don't think students in lower grade like in Grade 7 & 8 will have interest for this project. 

A ev3 track3r - Nivedya, Emma, Aslesha & Ridha 

Their project is an Ev3 Track3r. The purpose of this project is to enhance their skills on creating a robot. They have used the Lego mindstorms to create their own robot. It is a remote control robot. Infrared sensor is the main tool of the robot. It detects the objects, turn around and crash the objects with a hammer. It detects the object which is in the way of the robot. It allows to pick up the objects and put it somewhere else. 

The challenges faced are while constructing the robot. It took a while to create it completely. Another one is that they always lose the pieces everytime, but then they found it. Last challenges faced was the programming part. 

Environmental Engineering - Ammar

It focus on eco friendly technology to reduce waste pollution. His project is an experiment. He is experimenting the calculation of the voltage in a solar panel.

Peer Evaluation

SWOT Analysis

Strengths: If you are good in Art, you can make very beautiful design by using CD's. There are many things that you can do with CD. You can make mosaic which me and Sara are doing. Putting different shapes of cut CD's onto a board and it will look like a mosaic when it's finish.	Weaknesses: Doing this artwork may take a lot of time because you need to cut the CD's into different shapes and stick them on the board according to the picture drawn.
Opportunities: You are able to learn new things by doing something that you haven't done from before. You can gain more knowledge about CD's.  - How it is made, different types of CD, etc.	Threats: The edges of the CD's are quite sharp and you might cut yourself. So you have to be careful. To prevent this, you could wear gloves while cutting the CD's.

Blessing or Curse?

I think technology is a blessing, but at the same time it is also a curse. It depends on how you are using them as a student, parents, teachers etc. Modern technology may sometime affect your daily life depending on how often you use them and what do use them for. For some people, they use modern technology for research and others may use it for entertainment, for fun. To fulfill their interests. 

Modern technology has many advantages and disadvantages. Many benefits and impacts towards society. 

Modern technology helps you to get access to information. Helps you to complete your assignment, do own research and so as answer your questions that no one else could answer. It helps you learn and gain lots of knowledge. Knowledge that you don't have before and have now since the modern technology exist. The cons of trying digging information is wifi problems. It depends what kind of devices you are using. If you don't have internet on your laptop then you can't do any research unless you have a broadband which allows you to access to Internet. For phones it isn't a big deal to get access to Internet, but the big problem is that they might take it out and go on their phone in class without their teacher noticing. Modern technology is not only for doing work but also for entertaining yourself. You are able to watch videos and play games. Playing games are one of the thing that children are most likely to do, but the problem is that they might play games 24/7. They play games for a really long time which also may increase your eyes power and you might go blind and can't see anymore. Some kids are really stubborn so it will be very hard to make them stop. They'll just keep playing and playing

Another point why modern technology is good is that they are be able to communicate with people nearby and around the world. Without modern technology, how will they communicate with each other then? With the help of modern technology, we are able to learn other cultures and experience it by going to that country. 

As you can see from above, there are many reasons why modern technology is a blessing but not a curse. There are many positive comments than negative comments.

Tech Fair

Hubsan Nano Q4 Quadcopter

It is a small remote control helicopter. It is pocket size Quadcopter. It is the smallest remote control in the world. The size of The Quadcopter is the size of children's palm. The Quadcopter comes with a remote control. It flies very fast and high and it flies as if it is the real helicopter in real life. It is capable to do everything that a real helicopter can do. It can be counted as a toy for children at age 12 and above.

Drawbacks:

1. It is very small so it is hard to to control.
2. It is very sensitive to touch. It might break easily.
3. The Battery only last for 5 minutes fly time.

There was no info about the person who created this invention. Creating this kind of invention could be very helpful to people. It can help those who wanted to be a pilot and so on. It helps you how to fly and control the airplane or helicopter. It is not only helicopter and airplane, but cars too.
